I really like I survived a Japanese game show- But not as much as i did last year- They are doing something different and i am not 100% on what it is-

I feel last year they focused a bit more on the team interactions and experiencing the different culture- So it was fun to see the fish out of water/big brotheresque part of the show- I enjoy watching this stuff but they have limited this so much-

I don't think they had the competition to win the advantage last year- That is what is causing them to cut the story telling and character building to a minimum. I can't tell you anyones name on that show besides bubaloo cause he is just ridiculous and huge-

they need to go back to the character bulding/fish out of water approach and do what they did last year.

SYTYCDance is one reality show - actually a talent show, really - I don't mind seeing do well. Those kids are never going to be household names, even for fifteen minutes, like on AI, yet their enthusiasm and love for what they do is infectious. A lot of people sing in the shower, and think they can carry a tune, but while a lot of young people dance on weekends at the club, few of them are ever going to delude themselves they are in shape or have the moves to do what dance students at that level can do. The studio audience also seems knowledgable in more than just a " he/she's cute " sense, which you can't really say abouit the audeience for AI.

ABC really needs to move Japanese Game Show away from Wednesdays. It would be smart to put The Superstars on after Wipeout. ABC was smart enough to flip-flop AFV and Just for Laughs on Sundays. They should realize by now that JGS is doing horribly against the some of the most competitive shows on in the summer.

Its gonna be a very long summer for the CW. Its once tall and mighty America's Next Top Model repeats arent doing so well. Didnt it use to pull like nearly 2 million viewers 2 years ago?

i liked the pilot of the philantropist, but the second ep kinda sucked imho.

mostly for the message that they send via subtext.

for example that they hinted on the swimmer that visited san suu kiy this year and made it look cool an ok, while this mentaly unstable swimmer got her house arrest prolonged for years. (i don´t say he meant bad, but his actions had dire consequences for the woman and the whole country)

for a show about a man that tries to do good that is totally wrong imho.

Vetinari has a good point. No one wants to watch a rich playboy when everyone is struggling to make ends meat. I mean, if I was a billionaire I would probably go off on adventures in third world countries if it meant I got to have sex with beautiful natives. But, like most people, I don't have the money to do stuff like that.

Love Wipeout, great show, Japanese so-so, Philanthropist looked great in the promos, actual show bad. The posts above are reflective of why.

Good to see Got Talent is still doing well and I imagine it will continue to do well. I am shocked about Japanese Game Show also. It is a funny show and the games the Japanese make these Americans play is just ridiculous. But, that being said, it is going up against SYTYCD and Got Talent, so it really never had a fair chance from the start. I think it will stick around this season since it is getting better ratings than Better Off Ted and The Superstars but chances for a renewal may be slim.

I read about Nigeria on hitfix.com, although info on nbc.com is more likely correct.
And you are correct that it's cheaper when shoot in Canada or UK, where all infrastucture is already there, but here we are talking about big US production company with some big names attached (Barry Levinson), actually shooting in Africa, and besides, the pilot looked pretty epic and expensive.

Also they maybe decide to dump it into the summer after the Kings fiasco, since maybe it's one of those series they don't know how to promote and sell to the audience. Although they gave it at least pretty cushy timeslot right after the biggest show NBC had in a while.

Watching part of The Philanthropist, I had to wonder who it is at nbc that thought what the public was craving right now is the adventures of a european billionaire.

The Philanthropist is one of the worst dramas I've ever seen. Cheesy, preachy, and god awful. This is one drama I hope NBC cancels. We all know how good they're doing so.

Silku is correct about the Philanthropist, which (according to NBC's website) filmed in South Africa, Mozambique and Prague.
It's a shame the ratings have taken such a hit. I've really gotten into the show the last few weeks. Last night I made the comment that Teddy Rist was like an uber rich Michael Westen (from Burn Notice). Plus I like that he's spontaneous and impulsive, and the places they've filmed lend a real authenticity to the show.
That being said, NBC's promotion for The Philanthropist has virtually been non-existent. It's almost like they wanted it to fail from the start.
I have a feeling it would have been much better received on cable.

Wipeout beat So You Think You Can Dance in viewers which is good. Dont care too much for I Survived a Japanese Game Show.

America's Got Talent's demo dropped 0.8 from yesterday. do people only watch it on tuesday or maybe they dont know its on twice a week? And the Philanthropist isnt doing that bad considering its on in the summer but i think its only doing ok because of America's Got Talent lead-in.

If NBC really expected The Philanthropist to do well they wouldn't have premiered it in the summer.

Anyway, I think the ratings are going down due to the lack of sex scenes. I mean, why the hell do they have implied sex in every episode if they don't show it? I mean, they show a woman in his bed or in the backroom just to remind the audience that the main character is a womanizing playboy, but if they don't show the sex what's the point? I mean, it certainly doesn't make me root for his character more now that I know that during all of these good will tours he takes time off to sex up the locals.

It seems that The Philanthropist is dropping like a rock, and since it looks really expensive to make (in contrast to Listener and Merlin, which had worse ratings, but they are imports and cheap looking too).

I read that the pilot for example was made in large part in Nigeria, so we're talking here Heroes/Kings expensive. So i doubt NBC is happy with results that are quite below even than some medium budgeted NBC series like Chuck or Medium.
